Castle Community Action

Castle Community Action (CCA) is a student-led outreach programme based in Durham Castle, overseen by the Castle JCR Outreach Committee.

Outreach endeavours to bridge the gap between town and gown via an array of Castle Community Action (CCA) divisions and committees. Each division puts on a range of voluntary projects, opportunities and social events that every student at Castle is welcome to get involved in. We currently have a Homelessness division, School's Into Castle, Elderly Care, Warm Hearts, and the Environment, Charities and CCA auction committees. Getting involved in CCA is a fantastic way to make friends, feel fulfilled, and enhance your CV with incredible experiences and new skills.

Warm Hearts

Warm Hearts was established by current Castle students to support local NHS hospitals by providing practical ways to lift the morale of patients.

The current focus of Warm Hearts is to provide gifts in kind to NHS patients and service users. This academic year, every week a group of students came together to create baby blankets and hats for prematurely born babies in hospitals across the UK, alongside wrapping up Christmas presents to be donated to the local children’s ward and organising our annual Warm Hearts picnic. Due to the generous support, participation, and financial aid we have received this year, Warm Hearts is expanding and preparing to launch a fundraiser with the endeavour to raise enough to establish Warm Hearts volunteering hubs across the UK.

University student
"The University College community has been nothing but warm, welcoming and supportive, facilitating Warm Hearts to grow into the community and impact we have today; founding Warm Hearts was the best decision I ever made."
