Legal Cheek recently invited Professor Thom Brooks to speak at LegalEdCon 2025, where he discussed his views on the Solicitors Qualifying Exam.
Professor Brooks argued that the Solicitors Qualifying Exam should be reformed. His recommendations include revisiting topics tested to incorporate law and tech, reviewing possible exemptions for relevant law graduates from some part of the exam, a new strategy of closing the attainment gap, performance data linked to providers and a new advisory panel providing an independent feedback loop. His comments, published on Legal Cheek, are based on his keynote address at Legal Cheek's annual Legal Education Conference (LegalEdCon) held in London on 15 May 2025.
