The Durham Undergraduate Bursary is a non-repayable bursary for home undergraduate and PGCE students who do not already have an undergraduate degree and whose household income is below a specific threshold as assessed by Student Finance England (or equivalent).
You get your Durham Undergraduate Bursary as well as your government funding and you don't have to pay it back.
You can get a Durham Undergraduate Bursary in every year of your studies, provided that your household income remains below the eligibility threshold (your household income is reassessed by Student Finance England or equivalent every year). This includes years abroad and placement years.
The Durham Undergraduate Bursary Scheme will increase by 1.9% in academic year 2025/26, as set out below.
Durham Undergraduate Bursary Amounts by Household Income
You do not have to apply for a Durham Undergraduate Bursary Grant. If we have your household income and if you are eligible we will e-mail your Durham University e-mail address. We started e-mailing eligible students on the 15th August 2025.
If you are awarded a Durham Undergraduate Bursary you will be paid in three termly instalments.
