INWED 2026 Workshop | Women in Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Engineering: Industry 5.0 and Beyond
To celebrate International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) 2026, Newcastle University and Durham University with support from the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) will host two workshops bringing together researchers, industry professionals, and early-career engineers to explore the role of women in shaping the future of smart, sustainable, and resilient engineering.
The workshops will focus on key challenges and emerging opportunities in Industry 5.0, including digital transformation, sustainability transitions, and inclusive innovation in engineering practice. Through panel discussions and interactive sessions, the event aims to foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration across academia and industry. It will also highlight practical pathways for supporting women’s leadership, career progression, and impact in engineering and technology.
By creating an inclusive space for interdisciplinary exchange and community building, the workshops aim to contribute to a more equitable, responsible, and future-oriented engineering ecosystem.
