Research interests

  • Jing Chu is currently an Impact Research Assistant and Engagement and Research Assistant at Durham University, with a PhD in Human Geography / Economic Geography and a research profile spanning economic geography, geographical political economy, qualitative policy research, stakeholder engagement and impact-oriented project delivery.
  • Her research examines global financial networks, monetary infrastructures, payment systems, central banks, international organisations, central bank digital currencies, digital finance, financial governance and uneven development. She has worked empirically on the Bank for International Settlements, The Bahamas and the SandDollar, Hong Kong SAR and Project mBridge, cross-border CBDC experiments and platform-mediated consumer finance.
  • Her methodological expertise includes elite interviews; focus groups; documentary analysis; participant observation; thematic analysis; qualitative synthesis; stakeholder mapping; gap analysis; and institutional analysis. Her applied research experience includes FE stakeholder engagement, curriculum and pathway mapping, evidence synthesis, partner-facing reporting and impact-oriented project support.
  • She has published peer-reviewed articles in Singapore Journal of Tropical Geography and Finance and Space, contributed a practitioner-facing chapter for FSRG Briefs: Virtual Assets.
  • She has also worked as a Research Associate on the NERC-funded project Reimagining Pathways into Environmental Science through Showcasing Technical Careers, and as a Research Assistant on Finfluencers, Gamification and Youthful Finance.
  • Her academic citizenship includes serving as RPG Representative on Durham Geography’s Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team and working as an ad hoc reviewer for Review of International Political Economy, Finance and Space, and Journal of Geography in Higher Education.
