Our Facilities

We have a number of facilities within the Department of Psychology which are used by the Developmental Science group. We have created welcoming and child-friendly spaces for infant/child research. We have testing spaces for motion capture and VR studies. Please see below for more details on our research spaces.

Family Room

We have two family rooms in the department - one in each building. These rooms include relaxed seating, toys and books for users to feel at comfortable when attending research studies. We also have a baby feeding room in Rowan House, with comfortable seating and fridge facilities. There are baby changing facilities in both buildings.

Babylab

This lab has been setup for specialised infant development research, including specific areas of infancy like language learning, sleep, and movement. This lab has been setup with fNIRS and eyetracking capabilities, suited to infants and parents. The researchers in this lab all find infant development fascinating, and who love working in research to discover more about it!

For more information about the Babylab, please see: https://babylab.webspace.durham.ac.uk/

Motion Capture & VR Laboratory

We have a laboratory that has been setup for the purpose of motion capture of the human body, which can also be integrated with VR and/or physiological measures. We have had several studies run within this space across many years. The lab has been setup with VICON motion cameras, and we have several state-of-the-art VR headsets.

Child Development Laboratory

This laboratory has a observation room where researchers can watch children/parent interactions without being in the room themselves.
